A workshop for creative textile work

The Esche Museum is one of the two municipal museums in the town of Limbach-Oberfrohna, alongside Wolkenburg Castle, and invites you on a journey through around 300 years of textile history in the Limbach region. The Esche Lab opened here just in time for the opening weekend of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. On the third floor of the museum there is a workshop for creative work with a special focus on the art of knitting, embroidery and clothing, which is complemented by an intervention in the museum's permanent exhibition. Here, visitors can turn textile designs into knitted fabrics or finished individual pieces and experience modern knitting alongside historical machines. Another highlight is the "Kniterate" knitting machine, a digital flat knitting machine that can also be used by visitors after registering. In addition to various workshops in which, for example, you can make your own bags using sewing machines, there are also regular handicraft meetings where interested parties can come together and exchange ideas.
